The Matt Whayman Memorial Account

Matt was a vibrant 26 year old who was an innocent victim in a tragic road crash in 1999.  Matt was one of two sons; he had an elder brother, Mike, whom he adored.  Matt was a computer consultant and a radio DJ, his passion was radio.  Matt fought his way through red tape until he got his own radio license, the established his own radio station, Energy FM.  Having the radio station gave Matt the opportunity to fulfill his love for radio and in return he used this station to help people in need.  Matt's family have expressed the wish that the Matt Whayman Memorial Fund assist eligible projects supporting community radio and/or projects involving the support of young people in the community.

Mr Max Seymour, who was then Northern Group Training Chairman, launched the Matt Whayman Memorial Account in Hobart on the 15th December 2004.  The Account was established with a $10,000.00 donation to the TCF from the Company with whom Matt was employed, when he tragically lost his life.

In August 2009, The Matt Whayman Memorial Perpetual Prize was established with the Taroona High School.  Matt was a former student at Taroona.  The TCF, in consultation with the family and the Principal, arranged a special presentation at School Assembly.  The inaugural Prize, for a Grade 10 student with special needs, was presented by TCF Grants Chair, Ms Alison Jacob, in the presence of Matt's parents Carol and Conley Whayman.
